The Nature of Coherent Light
Laser radiation is the most sophisticated evolution of electromagnetic energy. Unlike the organised, scattered light of a lamp or the broad spectrum of the sun, a medical laser emits coherent light.
Think of it as Biological Resonance. Just as a specific, pure tone can cause a crystal glass to oscillate, the coherent wavelength of a medical laser resonates with the photoreceptors within the cell. This precision allows me to trigger physiological changes that ordinary light simply cannot achieve.
Medical Classification: Thermal vs. Photochemical
In accordance with the research of Lars Hode and Jan Tunér, I categorise lasers into two distinct functional groups:
Surgical (High-Power) Lasers: Utilised for their thermal properties to cut or cauterise tissue.
Biostimulating (Medical) Lasers: Also known as Photobiomodulation (PBM). These operate on a photochemical level. Rather than using heat, they use "pure" light to spark a series of complex chemical reactions within the dog’s cells, accelerating repair without the risk of thermal damage.
The Mechanism of Repair: How it Works
Photobiomodulation is a catalyst for the body’s innate healing systems. When the laser’s photons are absorbed by the mitochondria (the cell's power plant), they stimulate the production of ATP (Adenosine Triphosphate), the essential energy currency required for cellular regeneration and metabolic stability.
Beyond energy production, my tailored laser protocols influence:

The Biological Staircase: The Science of Timing

The Intensive Phase (3x Per Week): In acute cases, I "stack" the energy. Because ATP levels remain elevated for 24–72 hours, treating within this window ensures the next session begins from an elevated state, preventing a drop-back to the baseline of inflammation.
The Stabilisation Phase (2x Per Week): As the body’s innate repair capacity is activated, I move to a bi-weekly cadence. This locks in the gains, allowing the body to take over more of the healing independently.
The Maintenance & Resilience Phase: Once stabilised, I shift to "top-ups." The goal is to build such resilience that the body maintains its own equilibrium, requiring less support to prevent relapse.
Clinical Parameters: The Specialist Requirement
The success of my Synergy Protocol relies on the biphasic dose response, the Arndt-Schulz Law. If a dose is too low, there is no effect; if it is too high, it can inhibit healing. I utilise three primary laser classifications as defined by WALT standards:
